Influenced by his first Cousin, Jimmy Blount who was a Drummer and Bass player, drums and Bass became Wilsonís first love. Although extremely shy, music became a way for Wilson to express himself! As a teenager he were strongly influenced by the Funk and Soul of the seventies. Raised by his mother Miss Dorothy Lee Blount, and Grandmother Leola Blount, regularly being in church was a must for Wilson and his two sisters, Doris and Phyllis. Coming from a religious background, ìsinging gospel songs was a normal everyday thing for usî, says Wilson, but Blues was something else, we never listen to Blues.
Wilson quit school and left home at the age of 16. He later joined the US Army. It was much later before he started listening to Blues. He was around 30 years old, when he saw his first Blues Concert. îThat night, I had finally found what I was looking forî, says Wilson.
To call Wilson a Bluesman is not enough. This is a Folk, Funk, Roots and Soul man, who love the Blues. In his quest to integrate Funk, Soul and Gospel in to his Blues, even a little Country at times, Wilson began working with different Bands and in different formations! Because of his unique vocal style, Wilson sounds unlike any other singer or musician.
Wilson also worked as guest singer with top Blues musicians like the Blues Legend Lazy Lester, the Folk, Root and Bluesman Eric Bibb, Eb Davis Superband, the Bluesman from Texas Guy Forsyth, the most succesful Bluesband in Germany the Blues Company, the Tommy Schneller Extravaganza , the Gregor Hilden Bluesband and the Hamburg Bluespianist Jan Fischer. He also works with the best hungarian acoustic Bluesband ìDr. Valter and the Lawbreakersî. Wilson was strongly influenced by his brother, Soulman Greg ìPapa G.î Copeland.
Wilson was influenced by a host of great Blues and Soul singers,he says:îYou can learn a lot from different singers, but the most important thing with Blues is, what you feel, itís not all about the show or a certain style, Blues is a feelingî.
ìI want the people to feel me ì, says Wilson. ìI want to take them by the hand, and take them back home with me, down the dirt roads of North Carolina.
